When you replace the tiles, you basically have to remove the old tiles and replace them with new ones. Reglazing or refinishing the tiles is the process of applying a paint-like coating to your existing tiles to give them a new, shiny look. In most cases, regrouting is not necessary.
Typically, we start a project by cleaning the surfaces that are going to be refinished. After cleaning, the areas are etched with an acid so that the primer will be able to properly adhere to the surface. The walls, fixtures and floors will be masked off with masking paper and tape for protection, and then the primer is applied. Finally, a top coat is applied to the surface and the area must be left to cure for at least 12 hours.
This will depend on the project, but typically a tub only takes 3 or 4 hours to refinish. If the project involves a tub, some fixtures and the wall or floor tiles, it can take a couple of days. For a more concrete timeline, get in touch with us.
On average, a refinished bathtub will remain in excellent condition for 10 to 15 years, if you follow our long term maintenance and care instructions. Our coating is UV-stable, which means it does not yellow over time as epoxy does.
